Information for June 11

GRADUATION - CAP, GOWN, & TASSEL

Graduates in need of a cap, gown, or tassel still have a few options: (a) Order from tricitygraduation.com and it will be at the fairgrounds on graduation evening; (b) Purchase at the fairgrounds the evening of graduation (approximately $55-$75 depending on options); or (c) Check in with Melito or Magali in the office to see if a "loaner" is available should that be needed.

GRADUATION - SENIOR GRAD PRACTICE

Seniors are required to attend the MANDATORY graduation practice if they plan to participate in the graduation ceremony. Practice will be held on the day of graduation, Friday, June 11, at the Fairgrounds from 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm. During practice all aspects of the ceremony will be practiced and reviewed so that all seniors know exactly what to do, when to do it, and will know where they and their guests will be seated. During practice seniors will receive their 4, 6 (or maybe even 8) parent/family/guest reserved tickets for the graduation ceremony. The graduating seniors will be picking up tickets as they check in at the practice on Friday. All the tickets will be bundled in the quantity requested on the senior ticket survey and they will basically "pick their tickets from a hat" so this random draw will determine where the guest seats are located for the graduation ceremony. At the practice, seniors will be able to see exactly where their family will be seated for the graduation ceremony that night since all tickets are reserved seats designated for their family and guests. Seniors may trade ticket packets with another senior if they both agree to do so.

GRADUATION - SENIOR "STAGING" THE NIGHT OF GRADUATION

Graduates need to report to the Fairgrounds by 6:00 PM on Friday evening. Students need to being mask, cap, gown, and tassel! Seniors will gather and "stage" together in the Expo Building at the fairgrounds (there will be lots of signs and people directing seniors to the right location) while friends and family in attendance find their seats to watch the celebration.

GRADUATION - IMPORTANT GENERAL REMINDERS:

A few friendly tips and reminders to help make our graduation ceremony a great celebration for our Senior Class of 2021 and their guests:

  • The Fairgrounds & Shoes: Graduate seating (and some guest seating) will be on the rodeo arena floor. This means that those seated in that area will have a chair placed on the packed dirt floor of the arena. While we won't go so far as to officially call our ceremony at the fairgrounds a "Cowboy Graduation", we would say that wearing high heels is not going to be a good idea. Wear footwear that is comfortable and able to withstand some dirt (or even mud, if it's a little rainy.)

  • Please leave balloons, flowers, beach balls, and noisemakers at home or in vehicles please. These can block the view of those nearby or cause a disruption or distraction that would take away from the celebratory vibe of the event.

  • While our graduation celebration may not be perfect, please keep a positive attitude knowing that we do get to celebrate graduation with all grads together and many family and friends in attendance. Some schools are still conducting drive-through graduations, some graduations have only the graduates in attendance, or with just 1 or 2 guests allowed to attend. We are thankful for the opportunity to celebrate this with our seniors.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON TWO NON-SCHOOL SPONSORED SENIOR EVENTS

  • SENIOR PARTY A group of parents have been busy planning a fun senior party for seniors at Memorial Pool immediately after graduation is over. All grads are invited to attend this non-school sponsored senior party, though attendance or participation is entirely voluntary and optional. Again, this is not a school sponsored event.
  • BACCALAUREATE A group has organized another non-school sponsored event to which grads are invited to attend, though, again, attendance or participation is entirely voluntary and optional. This is not a school sponsored event and will be held Monday, June 7th from 7-8pm at Murr Softball field (facility is being rented by the organizers of the event)

Stuff Relating to School

SENIOR END-OF-SCHOOL-YEAR SCHEDULE: The last day of in-person classes at Wa-Hi for seniors will be next Wednesday, June 9. Thursday and Friday of graduation week will be Distance Learning Days, with Thursday being the day that seniors need to make sure that textbooks, ChromeBooks, hotspots, and any other school items are returned, and any outstanding fines and fees are paid. Friday will be graduation practice at the fairgrounds from 12:00 noon - 2:30 PM and then seniors need to be back at the fairgrounds for graduation by 6:00 pm so that we have an on-time start at 7:00 PM.

DIPLOMAS: During the graduation ceremony seniors receive a diploma COVER, but not their official diploma. Diplomas will be mailed to all graduates during the week of July 5-9 to the primary address on file in Skyward. Seniors should confirm that their mailing address is current in Skyward. Seniors are asked to contact the office if their diploma should be mailed to a different address. All fines and fees must be paid in order for the diploma to be mailed, so seniors should check in with Mrs. Brown in ASB if they have fines or fees that need to be paid.

FINAL TRANSCRIPTS: Seniors must request final transcripts to be sent to the college they will be attending in the fall. Transcripts are not sent automatically. All fines and fees must be paid before the transcripts can be sent. The transcript request link is bit.ly/wahitranscript Contact Mrs. Cox ( lcox@wwps.org or 526-8603) with any questions.

YEARBOOKS: Yearbooks are expected to arrive by mid-summer. When they arrive email notifications will be sent out and information will be posted to the school website with details about how and when to pick up the yearbook on campus. We'll also mail yearbooks to those who aren't still in the area and we are made aware of this. Also, if a yearbook wasn't already purchased, a limited supply may be available for purchase when they are shipped to us. Information and pricing for that will be known when the yearbook shipment arrives.

SUMMER SCHOOL: Seniors needing to participate in our Summer Sol credit retrieval program to finish up meeting all graduation requirements will begin summer school on Monday, June 21.
